Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 1: Kidus Yohannes
Day 1
The Beginning of a Beautiful World
Story Narration
Imagine a time long, long ago. In fact, imagine a time before time even started! There were no clocks, no calendars, and no birthdays. There was no earth to stand on, no blue sky to look up at, and no stars twinkling in the night. It was just deep, dark, and quiet.
It was like closing your eyes in a very dark room, but even darker than that. It was a vast, empty ocean of nothingness. But someone was there. God was there.
God's Spirit was hovering over the dark waters, like a warm, comforting wind ready to do something amazing. Then, God spoke. He didnt whisper; He spoke with a voice full of power and love. He said, "Let there be light!"
Suddenly-WOOSH!-brilliant, beautiful light burst into the darkness. It wasn't a lamp or the sun yet; it was pure, glowing light. God looked at this bright light and smiled because it was good. He separated this new light from the dark shadows. He called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night."
And just like that, the very first day in history happened.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
This story comes from the very first page of the Bible. It tells us about the moment everything began. It can be hard to imagine "nothing," can't it? Before you draw a picture, the paper is blank. Before you build a LEGO castle, the pieces are just in a pile. But God is so powerful that He didn't need a pile of pieces or paper. He created the world out of nothing.
The most important thing to learn from Day 1 is that God was already there. Before the universe existed, God was alive, full of love and power. He wasn't lonely; He was ready to create.
When God spoke, things happened immediately. This teaches us that God's Word is powerful. He doesn't have to work hard or sweat to build things; He simply commands it, and it becomes real.
We also see that God likes things to be good and orderly. He didn't leave the world dark and scary. He brought light! Light helps us see, keeps us warm, and makes things grow. By separating light from darkness, God established the rhythm of day and night that we still live in today. He was setting up a schedule for the world He was about to build.
Daily Christian Application
Just like God spoke light into the darkness, He can bring light into our lives. When we feel scared or confused, that feels like "darkness." But we can ask God to be with us, and His love acts just like that light"making things bright, clear, and safe.
