Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 29: Continuous Renewal: Holy Confession
Day 29
Counting Stars
Story Narration
One night, Abram was feeling sad. He was getting very old, and he still didn't have any children. "God," he asked, "You promised to make me a great nation, but I don't even have a son!" God came to Abram in a vision. He led Abram outside his tent into the cool night air.
"Look up," God said. "Count the stars."
Abram looked up. One, two, ten, a hundred... thousands! There were millions of twinkling stars.
"If you can count them," God said, "that is how many children and grandchildren you will have."
Abram looked at the stars, and he looked at his old wrinkled hands. It seemed impossible. But then, Abram did something simple and powerful. He believed God. And God smiled and said, "You are righteous (right with Me) because you believe."
Orthodox Theological Explanation
This is one of the most important nights in the Bible. Abram had no reason to believe he could have a baby"he was too old! But he decided that God was bigger than his problem.
The Bible says Abram's faith was counted as "righteousness." Thats a big word. It means being in right standing with God. We can't be perfect enough to earn God's love. We just have to trust Him, like Abram did.
Whenever you see the stars at night, remember God's promise to Abram. You are actually one of those "stars" because you are part of the family of faith!
Daily Christian Application
Next time you look up at the night sky and see thousands of stars twinkling above you, remember that God's promises to you are even more certain and numerous than those stars. Abram was very old and felt sad because he didn't have a son, but he chose to believe God's "impossible" promise, and God loved him for that trust. You might have things in your life that feel impossible too, but you can talk to God about them and believe that He is powerful enough to handle anything. Having faith means trusting that God is working on your behalf even when you can't see the results quite yet. You are actually a part of that big star-filled family of faith that Abram saw that night, and God's love for you is as vast and endless as the universe.
Key Takeaways
- ★ God's promises are bigger than we can imagine.
- ★ Abram was honest with God about his sadness.
- ★ God used the stars to teach Abram a lesson.
- ★ Believing God is what makes us right with Him.

When they make mistakes or do wrong, they can turn to God, admit their faults, and ask for forgiveness. Children can also learn that God not only forgives their sins but also cleanses them from all unrighteousness. They can understand that God's forgiveness brings spiritual renewal and restoration.
