Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 24: Trusting God's Representative
Day 24
The Rainbow Promise
Story Narration
God blessed Noah and his sons and gave them the whole earth to live in. Then God made a beautiful promise. He said, "I am making a covenant (a super serious promise) with you and every living creature. Never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." To sign this promise, God didn't use a pen and paper. He painted across the sky!
God said, "I have set my rainbow in the clouds. When I see the rainbow, I will remember my promise."
So, the very first rainbow appeared"red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet"arching over the world. It was God's colorful signature in the sky.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
A "Covenant" is a word you will hear a lot in the Bible. It means a binding agreement. It's like a pinky promise times a million!
The rainbow is God's reminder. God doesn't actually forget things (He knows everything!), but He uses the rainbow to reassure us that we are safe from a worldwide flood. Every time you see a rainbow after a rainstorm, you are looking at a message from God that is thousands of years old. It says: "God is faithful. God keeps His promises."
Daily Christian Application
Every time you see a beautiful rainbow arching across the sky after a rainstorm, let it be a reminder to your heart that God is perfectly faithful and always keeps His promises. That colorful signature in the clouds is God's way of saying "You are safe, and I am here for you," even thousands of years after He first spoke to Noah. You can trust every word God says in the Bible because He never breaks a covenant or changes His mind about His love for you. When you feel worried or uncertain about the future, think of the rainbow and remember that the same God who painted the sky is looking after every detail of your life. His promises are like a strong foundation that you can stand on every single day, no matter what happens.

Genesis 9:12-15 12 God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 It will happen, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud, 15 and I will remember my covenant...
Deuteronomy 7:9 "Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant..."
Ezekiel 1:28 "Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around."
Lesson 24: Trusting God's Representative
📖 Exodus 13:20-22, Exodus 17:1-7
The children will develop an understanding of trusting God completely and know that He gives authority to His representatives to do His work. Children can learn to trust in God's provision and guidance. The Israelites had to trust that God would lead them safely through the wilderness, even when they faced uncertainty or danger. Children can also learn about the dangers of complaining and grumbling. The Israelites' complaints not only reflected a lack of trust in God but also tested His patience and provoked His anger.
