Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 2: God the Magnificent Creator: The Creation
Day 2
The Sky, The Sea, and The Land
Story Narration
After the first day, the world was bright, but it was still very watery. Imagine swimming in a giant ocean with no sky above you and no ground beneath your feet"just water everywhere!
On the second day, God decided to create space. He spoke again. He commanded the waters to separate. Some water stayed down low, and some water went up high. In between the water, God made a beautiful, wide-open space. He called this space "Sky" (or Heaven). Now, there was a place for the clouds to float and the birds to eventually fly.
On the third day, God looked at the water below. He said, "Let the waters come together in one place, and let dry ground appear."
Suddenly, the water rushed away, obeying God's voice. Giant mountains rose up from the deep! Valleys dipped down low. Soft sandy beaches appeared. God called the dry ground "Earth" and the gathering of waters "Seas."
Then God painted the dry land with color. He said, "Let the earth grow grass and plants and trees!" Instantly, green grass carpeted the hills. Flowers of red, yellow, and blue popped open. Tall trees grew with delicious fruits hanging from their branches. The world was now ready for life.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
In this story, we see God acting like a master builder or an architect. If you were going to build a house, you would need a floor and a roof, right? On Day 2 and Day 3, God was building the "floor" (the land) and the "roof" (the sky) of our world.
God took the chaotic, watery world and gave it structure. He made the sky so we would have air to breathe. He made the land so we would have a place to walk, run, and play. He made the oceans deep and wide.
But God didn't just make the world useful; He made it beautiful. He didn't just make "food blocks" for us to eat; He made strawberries, apples, watermelons, and wheat for bread. He made flowers that smell good and trees that give shade. This shows us that God is generous. He creates things that bring us joy.
It is also important to notice that the land and the water obeyed God instantly. The ocean didn't say, "No, I want to stay here!" The mountains didn't say, "I'm too tired to rise up." Creation always obeys the Creator.
Daily Christian Application
Look outside today. Do you see the sky? Do you see a tree or some grass? Every time you see nature, you are looking at God's artwork. He made those things for you to enjoy. Just like the ocean obeys God, we should try to obey Him too, because He knows exactly where we fit best in His plan.

There was evening and there was morning, a second day. 9 God said, Let the waters under the sky be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas.
