Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 13: Diversity of Families: Story of Esther
Day 13
Anger in the Heart
Story Narration
Cain was furious. His face was hot with anger. He felt like it wasn't fair.
But God, being kind, came to talk to Cain. He asked, "Why are you angry? If you do what is right, won't you be accepted?"
Then God gave Cain a very serious warning. He said, "Watch out, Cain! Sin is like a wild animal crouching at your door. It wants to jump on you and control you, but you must be the master over it."
God was giving Cain a chance to calm down, change his attitude, and try again. All Cain had to do was stop being jealous and choose to do the right thing.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
Have you ever been so mad that you wanted to scream or hit something? That is how Cain felt. But feeling angry isn't the sin yet"it's what you do with the anger that matters.
God described sin as a crouching animal, like a tiger waiting to pounce. This is a great picture for us. When we feel jealousy or rage building up, we have to say, "No! I will not let this anger control me."
God was coaching Cain. He was saying, "You can fix this!" It teaches us that when we are in a bad mood, we can choose to change our attitude before we do something we regret.
Daily Christian Application
Next time you feel that hot, bubbly feeling of anger or jealousy rising up inside you, remember God’s warning that sin is like a crouching animal waiting to pounce. You have the power to "rule over it" by taking a deep breath and asking God to help you calm down before you say or do something hurtful. Instead of letting the anger win, you can choose to walk away, count to ten, or talk to a grown-up about how you feel. It takes a lot of strength to control your temper, but God is right there beside you to give you the patience you need. Choosing to be the master of your feelings will keep you safe and help you stay a good friend to those around you.
Key Takeaways
- ★ It is okay to feel feelings, but we must control our actions.
- ★ Sin waits for a chance to trick us.
- ★ God warned Cain because He loved him.
