Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 21: David Respects King Saul
Day 21
The Great Storm
Story Narration
Once the heavy door of the Ark shut tight, the sky turned dark gray. Then, the first drop fell. Plip. Then another. Plop. Then, the sky broke open! It didn't just rain like a normal thunderstorm; the Bible says the "fountains of the great deep" burst open. Water gushed up from the ground and poured down from the sky.
Inside the Ark, it was probably loud. The rain drummed on the roof"boom, boom, boom. The boat started to rock as the water lifted it up off the ground. Higher and higher it floated. Soon, the trees disappeared. Then the hills disappeared. Finally, even the tallest mountains were covered by water.
But inside the Ark, Noah and his family were dry. The lions were sleeping, and the bunnies were munching on hay. They were floating safely in God's giant wooden rescue boat.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
This was the biggest storm in the history of the world. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights without stopping! God sent the flood to wash away the wickedness on earth, just like He said He would.
It might feel scary to think about such a big storm, but the important part of this story isn't the water outside; it's the safety inside. God didn't stop the storm from happening, but He provided a way through it.
Sometimes in life, we have "storms""maybe a sickness, a move to a new school, or a sad time. God might not stop the problem instantly, but He acts like the Ark. He surrounds us, protects us, and carries us through the hard times until the sun comes out again.
Daily Christian Application
Whenever you feel a little bit scared because of a loud thunderstorm or a difficult situation in your life, remember that God is your "Ark" who keeps you perfectly safe. Just as Noah didn't have to worry about the giant waves outside because he was tucked inside the boat God built, you can stay calm because you are tucked inside God's loving care. You don't have to be a superhero to handle scary things; you just have to trust that God is holding onto you. He is with you in every "storm," whether it’s a bad dream or a hard day at school, and He will carry you through until the sun comes out again. Tell God about your fears today, and let His peace act like a warm, dry blanket around your heart.
Key Takeaways
- ★ God keeps His word (both warnings and promises).
