Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 17: Joyful Giving
Day 17
A World Gone Wrong
Story Narration
A long time passed after Enoch went to heaven. The world became very crowded with people. But sadly, the world also became very dark and scary. People stopped walking with God. Instead, they were mean. They fought, they stole, and they only thought about evil things all day long. It was a violent and unhappy place.
God looked down from heaven and His heart broke. The Bible says God was "grieved in his heart." It made Him so sad that He had made humans. He saw that the beautiful world He created was ruined by sin. God decided He had to wash the world clean and start over.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
It is hard to imagine God being sad, isn't it? We usually think of God as strong and happy. But because God loves us, He feels pain when we hurt each other. Just like a parent is sad when their children fight, God was sad to see His creation destroyed by wickedness.
This teaches us that sin is serious. It ruins things. God is patient, but He is also a Judge. He couldn't let the violence go on forever. He had to stop it.
But even in this dark story, God was looking for someone who still loved Him.
Daily Christian Application
Since God has a heart that feels joy and sadness just like yours, it is important to remember that our choices can either make Him smile or make Him feel grieved. When we see someone being mean or treated unfairly, we should feel a little bit of that same sadness and decide that we want to be different by being kind instead. You can be a "light" in a dark world by standing up for what is right even when it seems like everyone else is making bad choices. God is looking for children who love peace and follow His ways, and He promises to be with you whenever you choose to be a helper rather than a hurter. Think about how much better the world becomes when even one person decides to follow God’s path of love.
Key Takeaways
- ★ Sin spread and made the world a violent place.
- ★ God has feelings; our sin can make Him sad.
- ★ God is patient, but He eventually judges sin.
- ★ The world needed a fresh start.
