Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 6: Purity: The Christian family
Day 6
The First Rest Day
Story Narration
Imagine working on a big Lego set or a drawing for six whole days. You would be tired, but also very happy with what you made.
After six days of speaking galaxies, oceans, and tigers into existence, God was finished. The universe was complete. It was perfect.
So, on the seventh day, God did something different. He stopped. He didn't stop because He was tired or sweaty"God doesn't run out of energy. He stopped to enjoy what He had made. He rested. He made the seventh day holy, which means "set apart" or "special." It was a day to breathe, look around, and say, "This is good."
Orthodox Theological Explanation
Why would God rest if He is all-powerful? He did it to set an example for us. God knows that we need rest. If we work, play, and run around all the time without stopping, we get cranky and worn out.
This special day is called the Sabbath. God wants us to take time to stop working and just enjoy Him and His world. Its a day to go to church, be with family, and thank God for everything He has given us.
Rest isn't just about sleeping; it's about celebrating. God looked at His world with joy. When we rest, we should look at our lives and find reasons to be thankful.
Daily Christian Application
Just as God took a day to stop and enjoy everything He had made, it is important for you to take time to rest and be thankful too. Sometimes we get so busy with school, sports, and playing that we forget to just be still and spend time with God. When you take a break on the Sabbath or even just a quiet moment during your day, you are giving your heart a chance to catch up and remember all the good things God has done for you. Use your rest time to think about your favorite things from the week and tell God "thank you" for them. Resting isn't just about being lazy; it's about celebrating God's goodness with a happy and peaceful heart. By following God's example, you'll find that you have more energy and joy to do your best in everything else.
