Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 30: The Parable of the Lost Sheep
Day 30
The God Who Sees
Story Narration
Abram's wife, Sarai, was tired of waiting for a baby. She decided to help God out (which is usually a bad idea). She had a servant named Hagar. Sarai told Abram to marry Hagar so they could have a baby that way. It was a confusing time, and soon everyone was unhappy. Sarai was mean to Hagar, and Hagar ran away into the desert.
Hagar was alone, thirsty, and crying by a spring of water. She thought no one cared about her.
But the Angel of the Lord found her. He said, "Hagar, go back and be brave. I will give you a son named Ishmael, and I will bless him too."
Hagar was amazed. She said, "You are the God who sees me!" She realized that even though she was a servant and a runaway, the God of the universe was watching over her.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
Sometimes we feel invisible. Maybe you sit alone at lunch, or you feel like no one understands how you feel. Hagar felt that way. She was just a servant, and she was in a big mess.
But God has a special name in this story: El Roi, which means "The God Who Sees." He saw Hagar crying in the desert. He knew her name.
This story teaches us that we should wait for God's plan instead of trying to force things like Sarai did. But it also teaches us that even when we are in a mess, God sees us and loves us.
Daily Christian Application
There might be times when you feel lonely, invisible, or like no one really understands what you are going through, but you can take comfort in knowing that you are never hidden from God's eyes. Just as He found Hagar by the spring in the desert and knew her name and her story, He knows exactly where you are and how you are feeling right now. "The God Who Sees" (El Roi) is always watching over you with a heart full of love, and He cares about the little things that make you sad just as much as the big ones. You can talk to Him whenever you feel alone, and He will remind you that you are a precious and chosen child of the King. Knowing that God is always looking after you with kindness will give you the strength to be brave and keep going, no matter what.

They can understand that God's love extends to everyone, including those who may feel lost or forgotten. They also learn that God rejoices when even one person repents and returns to Him.
