Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 34: The Transfiguration on Mount Tabor
Day 34
The Rescue
Story Narration
Sadly, there weren't even ten good people in Sodom. Only Lot and his family. So, God sent two angels to rescue them. The angels came to Lot's house and said, "Get up! Take your wife and your daughters and run! Do not look back and do not stop!"
Lot hesitated. He didn't want to leave his home. So the angels grabbed him by the hand and pulled him out of the city! They rushed them to safety.
Then, fire fell from the sky on the wicked city. But Lot's wife did something sad. She missed her old life. She stopped and looked back at the city. Instantly, she turned into a pillar of salt.
Lot and his daughters made it to a cave, safe but sad. God had saved them because He remembered Abrahams prayer.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
This is a serious story about rescue. Lot was living in a bad place, and he was hesitating to leave. Sometimes we hold on to things that are bad for us, but God wants to pull us to safety.
The angels grabbing Lot's hand shows God's mercy. Even when we are slow to obey, God tries to help us.
Lot's wife looked back because her heart was still in the city. She loved her stuff and her home more than she trusted God's warning. Jesus told us to "Remember Lot's wife." It means we should follow Jesus with our whole hearts and not look back at our old sins.
Daily Christian Application
When God gives you a warning or asks you to move away from something that is bad for your heart, try to obey Him quickly and with your whole heart without looking back or hesitating. Just like the angels had to grab Lot's hand to pull him to safety, God sometimes gives us a strong "nudge" through our parents or our feelings because He loves us and wants to protect us from getting hurt. It is important to keep your eyes focused on the good path God has set for you, rather than missing the "old ways" that were not part of His best plan. Following Jesus means moving forward into a bright and beautiful future, so leave the mistakes and bad choices behind and run toward the amazing things He has prepared for you. Trusting God's rescue mission will keep your path clear and your heart full of peace as you walk with Him every day.
