Day 10
Hiding from God

Story Narration

After Adam and Eve ate the fruit, the cool evening wind began to blow. Usually, this was their favorite time because God would come and walk with them. They heard the sound of God walking in the garden. Crunch, crunch, crunch.

Instead of running to hug Him, they ran away! They hid behind some thick bushes because they were ashamed of what they had done.

God called out, "Where are you?"

God knew where they were, of course. He wanted them to come out.

Adam finally said, "I heard you, and I was afraid, so I hid."

God asked, "Did you eat from the tree I told you not to eat from?"

Instead of saying "I'm sorry," Adam blamed Eve. Then Eve blamed the snake. Nobody wanted to admit they were wrong.

Orthodox Theological Explanation

Have you ever broken a toy or spilled something and then tried to hide it? That is exactly what Adam and Eve did. They felt guilt.

God asked, "Where are you?" not because He was lost, but because He wanted them to admit what happened. He was giving them a chance to tell the truth.

When Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the snake, they were making excuses. God wants us to take responsibility for our actions. When we do something wrong, the best thing to do is run TO God, not AWAY from God. We should say, "Im sorry, please forgive me." God is always ready to forgive, but we have to be honest first.

Daily Christian Application

When you do something wrong, your first feeling might be to run away or find someone else to blame, but God wants you to be brave and tell the truth. Even though Adam and Eve tried to hide behind the bushes, God already knew exactly where they were and what they had done, and He still came looking for them because He loved them. Being honest might feel scary at first, but it is the only way to feel better and fix the things we’ve broken. Instead of saying "it wasn't me" or "he made me do it," try saying "I'm sorry, I made a mistake." You will find that when you are honest, a heavy weight is lifted off your heart and you can be close to God and your family again. God is always ready to listen and help you start fresh with a clean heart whenever you come to Him with the truth.

Key Takeaways

  • ★ You cannot hide from God; He sees everything.
  • ★ Sin makes us want to hide from God.
  • ★ God seeks us out even when we have done wrong.
  • ★ We should not blame others for our mistakes.
  • ★ We should confess (admit) our sins to God.

Parallel Verses & Holy Scripture

Genesis 3:8-13 8 They heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, Where are you? 10 The man said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 God said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from? 12 The man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate. 13 The LORD God said to the woman, What is this you have done? The woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate. Here is the continuation of the 365-Day Kids Bible Story Program, covering Day 11 through Day 20.
