Scripture (English) Grade 1
Lesson 7: Raising Lazarus
Day 7
The Garden Home
Story Narration
Let's zoom in now. The whole earth was made, but God planted a specific garden for Adam to live in. It was called Eden.
Eden wasn't just a regular backyard. It was a paradise! It had beautiful trees that were nice to look at and good for food. A sparkling river flowed through the garden to water it. The ground even had gold and precious stones hidden in it.
God put the man, Adam, in this garden. He gave Adam a job: "Dress it and keep it." This meant Adam was the gardener. He got to take care of the plants and enjoy the perfect home God gave him.
Orthodox Theological Explanation
Did you know that work is actually a good thing? Sometimes we think chores are boring, but in the beginning, before any sadness or bad things happened, God gave Adam a job. Adam's job was to be a gardener.
This teaches us that God likes us to be responsible. He gave Adam a beautiful place, but He expected Adam to take care of it. When you clean your room or help with the dishes, you are being like Adam in the garden"taking care of the blessings God gave you.
God provided everything Adam needed: a home, food, water, and a purpose. God is a Provider.
Daily Christian Application
Even in a perfect paradise, God gave Adam an important job to do because work is a gift that makes us feel helpful and strong. Whether it's helping with chores at home or working hard on a school project, you can find joy in doing your best because God is the one who gives you your talents and energy. When you take care of your toys, your room, or your garden, you are being a good steward or "manager" of the blessings God has placed in your life. Remember that God provides everything you need to succeed, and He loves to see you use your hands and mind to create order and beauty. Doing your work with a cheerful heart is a wonderful way to say "thank you" to God for your home and your family. Every little task you complete is an opportunity to grow and show that you can be trusted with big things in the future.
